Einstein had three children with his first wife Mileva Marić. Their names were Lieserl, Hans Albert and Eduard. Like his father, Hans Albert obtained a Ph.D. and worked as a professor, albeit in technical sciences. Hans Albert and his wife Frieda Knecht (whom his father disapproved of) had four children: Bernhard, Klaus, David and Evelyn. In the photo above, Hans Albert (with the hat), his wife and their first two children are greeted by Einstein himself as they arrived in America on the SS American Trader, travelling from Switzerland in 1938. They were escaping Nazism, as had their father five years prior. The family eventually settled in Greenville, South Carolina.
